Boris Van Severen & Jonas Vermeulen
Jonas Vermeulen (1990) is an actor, theatre maker and musician who graduated from the Conservatory of Antwerp (Cabaret) in 2013. For Opus Apparatus, he is joining forces (again) with his artistic partner in crime Boris Van Severen (1989), who is also an actor, theatre maker and musician. Together with Jonas, he graduated from the Conservatory of Antwerp in 2013.
Jonas and Boris created their master's project together: The Great Downhill Journey of Little Tommy (2013). The performance quickly became a major theatre hit both at home and abroad, was selected for the 2014 Het TheaterFestival – where it was awarded the Roel Verniers Prize – and won a Fringe First Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2015 (where it ended up as the laureate of the Big in Belgium Prize at Theater Aan Zee 2013). Between 2013 and 2016, the performance was presented more than 40 times, from Ostend, over Amsterdam, to New Zealand (at the Auckland Arts Festival).
In 2017, they created their second performance together, The only way is UP, at arts centre CAMPO. This performance was also a great success and was selected for the 2017 Het TheaterFestival. According to De Morgen, it was one of those rare theatre works "where you enter tired and come out with an enormous energy boost and the feeling that a whole night, a whole life is still ahead of you". Between 2017 and 2020, Jonas and Boris performed this production more than 50 times.
In addition, they have each worked on their own careers in the theatre, film, and music landscape. Jonas was a guitarist with Psycho 44 for many years and played with renowned companies such as FC Bergman, Ontroerend Goed, Olympique Dramatique and hetpaleis. On screen, he has appeared in films and series such as In Vlaamse Velden, Den elfde van den elfde, Studio Tarara and Zillion. He is currently also touring with a performance he created himself: Walden. Boris played in the occasional band The Shitz and with Nightman and has appeared in theatre productions by Laika, KVS, het KIP, KOPERGIETERY and Malpertuis. On screen, he has appeared in films and series such as In Vlaamse Velden, Belgica, De 16, Een goed jaar, Skunk and Moresnet.
