Mission & Vision
MISSION
CAMPO is a Ghent-based and international arts center, workspace, and production house. Central to our work is innovative and daring performance art at the intersection of various artistic disciplines. The house provides a platform for not-yet established artists to strengthen their trajectories and create performances that move audiences both at home and abroad. We consciously rub against rusted norms and patterns, in the conviction that it is precisely within those cracks that space opens up for new adventures.
VISION
CAMPO chooses the edge, where new ideas emerge and artistic practices can develop freely. We challenge normative views on art production, content, forms, and disciplines. CAMPO artists ask radical questions and translate them into a concrete, research driven artistic practice. Because it is precisely these practices that have the power to truly shift the field of performing arts.
CAMPO disrupts the force field between artist and audience. We set the audience in motion and allow them to become part of the frictions that art evokes. CAMPO creators primarily connect with an audience that is open to the unexpected and the uncompromising. Our mission is to unlock the artistic innovation of CAMPO artists for an ever-growing audience, without losing their idiosyncratic character. Artists make statements by creating, and CAMPO amplifies these by supporting and presenting them loudly, clearly, and unwaveringly.
CAMPO cherishes the messiness of research, detours, and trials, for that is where every artistic trajectory begins. Our artistic residencies provide fertile ground where things are allowed to simmer and derail. That open space, unbounded, unfinished, and sometimes chaotic, is for us a necessary condition for a vibrant, future-oriented arts field.
CAMPO is a driver of collaboration and actively seeks alliances with partners within and outside the arts field. In this way, we aim to carefully frame and challenge artistic work through encounters with partners from civil society, the corporate world, and the academic world. CAMPO believes in places where diverse voices cross paths, and where conflicts and power dynamics are questioned, contested, and redistributed.
