Commissioned by Frascati Amsterdam, the bonus track on Rodrigo’s double-sided performance, The Furious Rodrigo Batista (Side A) + The B-side is an artwork that aims to contextualize the political realities of Brazil’s national government and the Brazilian president, Jair Bolsonaro.

Bonus Track dissects a new type of ideological colonization, based on known technologies used by the North American alt-right: fake news, explicit misogyny, racism, homophobia, conspiracy theories, anarcho-capitalism and the consequent destruction of Latin American democracy. Such ideological attacks, together with colonization and imperialism, have led to the setting-up of necropolitical states dominated by narco-militia wars. This, in turn, has created a basis for accelerated genocide (of Black, peripheral, indigenous and queer populations).

Filmmaker Renato Sircilli and writer Nicole Oliveira, both based in São Paulo (BR), combine the use of text, image and music to give audiences a better understanding of the processes that made Bolsonaro’s election a fundamental factor in the rise of right-wing global extremism, as well as the acceleration of climate change.
