IN CHORUS! is a music-theatre project in which Brussels performance artist Myriam Van Imschoot and Willem de Wolf, an actor and writer with de Koe, are collaborating with non-professional singers: theatre students of the KASK in Ghent and thirteen amateur actors.

The starting point for IN CHORUS! is provided by the rehearsals for a vocal work. A chorus of people singing and endlessly practising so as to reach unanimity and melodiousness. The accompanying failures, repetitions and blunders make up the dramatic material. Because people are at their most vulnerable when they are not (yet) able to do something they really want to.

But IN CHORUS! is not only an ode to the poor entry, the false note and the voice that is still shaky, out of balance and cadence. It is also a carrousel in which we zoom in and out on the process, the rehearsals, the improvements, the hope, the harmony (or discord) and on how individuality relates to solidarity.

Anyone who expects fine cantatas and virtuoso vocal parts will have to make do with a piece of music theatre that makes an art of learning how to sing.
