Marah Haj Hussein & Nur Garabli / Monty
Wed 13 May and Thu 14 May

An intense and intimate encounter between two powerful dancers.

Marah Haj Hussein and Nur Garabli, two Palestinian makers and dancers, explore the intimate bond between grandmother, mother, and daughter. Together, they seek to reclaim the female body as a site of strength and resilience in times of oppression. They investigate how knowledge, gestures, and political experiences passed down through generations acquire new meaning in their encounter today.

Their point of departure is that encounter itself: a dialogue about the stories stored within their bodies—bodies shaped by a Western, supposedly universal vocabulary, but also by gestures drawn from the silenced histories of women.

Can we learn to forget our bodies? And what do we choose not to know anymore?

In 2025, Marah Haj Hussein won the Flemish Actors’ Guild Award for Best Acting Performance in the under-35 category. She is a dancer, actor, and maker from occupied Palestine who currently lives in Antwerp. In her work, she investigates power structures embedded in language, often bringing theater and dance together in physical, political, and poetic encounters on stage.

Nur Garabli is a Palestinian choreographer, dancer, and artistic director from occupied Jaffa. Her work emerges from the meeting point between folklore and the contemporary, where tradition shifts into a vibrant and continuously evolving movement. Through her body she explores memory as an archive, a place of resistance, documentation, and continuity. Nur was co-curator of Moving Together (2022 & 2023), a festival that brings women together through dance and shared heritage.
