Fleur De Roeck
Director
Fleur De Roeck (born 1992, Antwerp) is a multidisciplinary artist working across painting, sculpture, photography, video and installation. Her teenage years in the south of France shaped her sense of identity and home, and traces of that time run through her colourful, dreamlike landscapes. In them, opposites meet: underwater and above water, day and night, with shifting horizons and a nature full of eyes and mysterious creatures. She has exhibited for many years, at galleries including Sofie Van de Velde, Tatjana Pieters and Rik Rosseels Gallery, and was in residence at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris.
Yet she increasingly felt the urge to step away from the flat frame and the silence of the gallery. She wants to create total experiences, which is why she works across disciplines. To activate her work, she first invited other performers to appear among her pieces, until she eventually took the stage herself, in a set she had painted herself.
This is how Sinaas came into being in 2023: a total universe in which painting, music, text, costumes and performance flow together, and in which she performs as her alter ego. It began with the texts she wrote next to the drawings in her sketchbooks. Out of a nostalgia for French chanson, she began to sing them, and so her own songs were born. To catchy rhythms, she sings and speaks in French about broken hearts, summer gardens and diary poetry, playful and poppy, yet always with an intimate undertone.
For her Sinaas Summer Shows, she invites performers, dancers and musicians to join her on stage. It feels as if creatures and objects have tumbled out of her paintings: everyone moves through sets and costumes made entirely of paper and painted by hand, until the stage becomes a living painting. Sinaas has brought its colourful world to M HKA, Mu.ZEE, Toneelhuis, Ancienne Belgique and Wintercircus. Her debut album Je Pars Loin was released in 2026.
At CAMPO in Ghent, she is exploring new forms of musicality within Sinaas, and working with text and storytelling in French, as well as in Dutch and English.
