Lena Dunham’s Girls live on stage!

More than ever, the young girl violently shakes us with desire, in a world where our desire is insatiable. She’s a capitalist wet dream. She’s seduced and desired. But what fantasies do keep her awake at night?

young girls is a play in which four performers reenact the HBO show Girls by Lena Dunham (2012 - 2017). Or, they try. The show depicts the lives of four twenty-something girls in New York City. So trivial! How hard can that be?

Reenacting the show, a turbulent portrait of the time just before #MeToo, raises questions. What does it mean to be a girl ten years later? How much longer will her success uphold her? Is her story worth telling, or would it be better left as an entry in her diary?

By reenacting out of love and catharsis, the performance seeks to break free from the cliché, limiting scripts imposed on the young girl. Good luck girls!

In 2024, Maria re-enacted The Sound of Music in her successful graduation production De Sont of Mjoezik, with Marieke as the final director. Catho, Marieke and Maria are now continuing this re-enactment of pop culture in young girls.
