Louis Janssens and Willem de Wolf met when, as a teacher at drama school, Willem saw Louis enter his class and for a moment thought he saw himself as the student he was 35 years ago. He saw the same eagerness, the same ambition, the same uncertainty wrapped up in bravura. Even that very lanky figure with its suggestive lock of hair hanging nonchalantly over his forehead was, with some backlighting, almost Willem.

Conversely, Louis also recognised himself in Willem. As something you could become, even though you might not want to. As a so-called adult, experienced, with uncertainty wrapped in resignation. What do you actually see when you see yourself in the other? Is recognising yourself in the other the basis for learning?

Analoog will be an intergenerational performance in which people sing and talk about childhood, about mothers and about searching disruptive loves. A score about learning processes taken and wanted. About earlier and later, but also about how to position yourself as a young – or older – person in the world.

A performance as a large open plain on which Willem looks back and forward with music, text and images, and Louis looks forward and back. And somewhere in this tangle of perspectives they look at each other at a certain moment, of course.
