What does taking care look like in the future?
This question forms the foundation of a travelling 'care village' (think circus village) that CAMPO is setting up. Four artists will work with mixed groups composed of residents from the Domino residential care centre, children from various schools, and patients from the AZ Sint-Lucas hospital. These partner organisations are all located around CAMPO victoria. Together, we are building four pavilions filled with a poetic collection of proposals that broaden, question, and reshape our perspective on care.
The organisation of care and well-being is at a turning point. Today, we face a wide range of challenges that together form a true 'circus of care': budget cuts, efficiency measures, the rise of technology and artificial intelligence, and the changing needs of users. In this context, experts often dominate the conversation, while the voices of the users themselves are taken less seriously. Circus of Care aims to change this. Together with the users of welfare and educational organisations, and starting from their lived experiences, we reflect on how things can be improved and what we should dare to dream of.
Circus of Care will be inaugurated at the Fratersplein (Ghent) in May 2027. Keep an eye on our socials and website to follow the artistic process.
