PARTY TIME

Toon Acke, Kes Bakker & Anna De Graeve
Wed 24 Feb and Thu 25 Feb

A dangerously timely and provocative performance by a new generation of theatre makers

In a country on the brink of civil war, an exclusive and influential circle gathers for a party. While the streets are on fire, there is amiable chatting, laughter, and dining. It’s party time!

On one side, a revolution is brewing; on the other, concerns arise about a membership at an exclusive tennis club. While waiting for the remaining guests, a hypocritical struggle for status, recognition, and power erupts among those present. A celebration on the edge of the abyss.

PARTY TIME is a biting satire that asks whether (political) power always corrupts. Can idealism survive within an economic system structurally built on self-interest? Within that power, is there also room for doubt and vulnerability?

Following Housewarming, the trio Acke, Bakker and De Graeve collaborate once again. For their new production, they take Harold Pinter’s one-act play Party Time (1991) and Giuliano da Empoli’s non-fiction book The Hour of the Wolves (2025) as a starting point to write a new text. In doing so, they bridge the gap between classical repertoire and the world of today.
