For the first time in Ghent: the impressive visual world of Stef Van Looveren!

In 2022, visual artist Stef Van Looveren’s first live performance, Radical Hope - Eye to Eye, was immediately selected for Het TheaterFestival. An overwhelming success, the production also toured to the Münchner Volkstheater and Sophiensaele in Berlin.

For their second live performance, CONFESSIONS, Van Looveren goes solo. Through their body and a wide range of emotional and social stages, our layers of identity are explored. Van Looveren works with an enormous furnace to melt and sculpt glass live on stage. What was once rigid and fragile melts and reshapes itself, echoing the ever-changing nature of selfhood.

Van Looveren's work cannot be easily categorized. They combine video with performance within sculptural installations. Their exploration of the body is inspired by a hybrid mix of elements: religious iconography, technology, popular culture, and BDSM. Van Looveren utilizes materials such as silicone, wax, and metal, symbolizing transformation and transition. CONFESSIONS offers a perfect opportunity to become acquainted with the intense world of Stef Van Looveren.

Stef Van Looveren is a multidisciplinary artist working with video, performance, sculpture, and installation. In a layered manner, their work explores the fluidity of gender, sexuality, and social identity. Van Looveren developed and presented their first performances at DE SINGEL and recently had a solo exhibition at the M HKA. In the coming years, CAMPO will be producing Van Looveren's stage work.
