Long voyage home

Marthe Koning & Gerben Vaillant
Wed 19 May and Thu 20 May

A physical and poetic performance about coming home to a precarious reality

Gerben Vaillant, the discovery of last season at CAMPO, is back! This time, he joins forces with the impressive Marthe Koning.

The two artists crave a sense of stability. Certainty is scarce, yet they long to understand, predict, and pin down the world. What if instability and shakiness are actually our greatest anchors? In Long Voyage Home, we enter a world that has let go of its fixed form.

With humor and absurdity, Gerben Vaillant & Marthe Koning navigate this unstable reality. With playful surrender, they veer between dance, singing, and acting, while falling theatre curtains represent an increasingly amorphous world.

You won't want to miss this homage to the fragility of both our inner and outer worlds!

Marthe Koning (1996) is a performer, singer and composer. Her work is characterised by a constant search for new forms of expression and interdisciplinary collaboration, with her voice serving as a candid and fearless foundation. In 2023, she presented her solo performance What Pessoa taught me with detheatermaker. Etcetera wrote: “A brave and unapologetic ode to freedom within.” She has created several productions with Collectief King Sisters and is a performer with MOVEDBYMATTER, Muziektheater Transparant and Studio Vacuüm.

Gerben Vaillant (1994) is an interdisciplinary performance maker. He works with text, dance, imagery, philosophy, trash–it can always become anything, but is often atmospheric and sometimes confusing in nature. In recent years, Vaillant has developed work at Frascati Productions: Swimming Studies (2022), A Sense of an Ending (2023), on almost every page (2024) and On Smoke and Airconditioning. On almost every page was selected for the VSCD Mime / Performance Prize at the Dutch Theatre Festival and was performed in Belgium at Love at First Sight and in a sold out CAMPO. Het Parool wrote that it is “everything you could hope for from theatre, and then a little bit more.”
